
Like many, I was a firm believer in the power of traditional psychotherapy. Trained intensely in psychoanalysis, I sought to uncover the unconscious and believed it held the key to happiness. Yet, a nagging feeling of being stuck remained, a dissonance between my training and my own experience of deep sensitivity.
Psychoanalysis, coupled with life changes, only deepened the discontent. This belief – that fixing the mind fixes the person – felt incomplete.
A brutal wake up call
Then came bacterial meningitis, a brutal wake-up call. My world tilted, and I was falling. Traditional methods alone weren’t enough. Doctors saved my life, but true healing demanded a more holistic approach.
In therapeutic mindfulness, a profound experience shifted everything. Beyond thoughts and worries, I felt held by a loving, gentle force – the very “life that lives us all.” It wasn’t just about the mind; it was about surrendering to the flow of life, embracing body, spirit, and the interconnectedness of everything. It was about what I feel in everyday life, not think. DON’T GET ME WRONG, THE RECOVERY WAS SLOW, 6 YEARS OR SO….
However, I knew the general direction I needed to go. Determining the exact path and healing methods is an art form, something everyone who’s been through it can understand.
