Balance Psychotherapy employs an integrative approach, drawing upon elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), attachment research and psychoanalytic object relations theory. This multifaceted framework fosters internal equilibrium by addressing the regulation of emotions and their impact on the individual’s inner world. It acknowledges the influence of larger systems (e.g., family, society) on a client’s functioning.

Clinically versatile, balance psychotherapy effectively tackles a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and specific aspects of trauma. By embracing a holistic perspective that encompasses body, mind, and spirit, it aims to treat the whole person. Notably, this approach demonstrates a commitment to staying aligned with the latest advancements in neurobiology.

Many therapies neglect emotions – the very root of our struggles! The Balance Psych fills this gap by providing tools and techniques to directly address and regulate your emotions. It’s a first-of-its-kind app developed in response to my clients’ needs.

Tailored Therapy to Get You Back on Track

I offer a variety of therapy options to fit your specific needs and goals. Here’s a breakdown of some other options and approaches I use:

Short-term therapy (16 sessions):

  • Psychodynamicly oriented Therapy: This therapy explores how your thoughts and emotions interact, both consciously and unconsciously. We’ll work together to understand how past experiences might be impacting your present struggles.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with Mindfulness: This approach focuses on identifying unhelpful thought patterns and developing healthier coping mechanisms. Mindfulness practices can be integrated to help you manage stress and anxiety.

Long-term therapy:

  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy: This in-depth therapy provides a safe space to explore your feelings and work towards achieving emotional balance at your own pace.

Additional options:

  • Schema CBT: This builds on CBT by identifying underlying patterns in your thinking and emotions that may be contributing to your difficulties.
  • Balance Coaching: This provides support and guidance as you navigate life transitions or seek to improve specific areas like your career or relationships.
  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): This therapy can be helpful for addressing past traumas and related emotional distress.
  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT): This approach helps you develop self-compassion and manage feelings of guilt or self-criticism.
  • Relationship Psychotherapy/Coaching: Individual growth within a family has a ripple effect. As one person evolves, their interactions and roles within the family system transform, prompting adjustments from other members.
  • Work-Focused Psychotherapy/Coaching: I use a psychodynamicly informed organisational framework to explore the emotional aspects of work-related challenges and improve your well-being in the workplace.
  • Embodied Psychotherapy: This approach integrates mind-body awareness into therapy, particularly helpful for those who struggle with dissociation.
  • Meditation Support Psychotherapy: Struggling to maintain a meditation practice? I can help you understand underlying psychological obstacles and support your journey towards a more mindful state.

Finding the Right Fit:

During our initial sessions, we will discuss your concerns and work together to develop a personalized treatment plan that aligns with your goals and preferred approach.

Additional Resources:

I may recommend apps or books to supplement your therapy and support your progress outside of sessions.

Let’s work together to help you feel better and reach your full potential!

Considering Therapy? Here’s What to Expect

Initial Consultation (50 minutes):

We’ll meet in a supportive and confidential setting to discuss what’s currently going on in your life. I’ll listen to your concerns and explore the challenges you’re facing. By the end of the session, I can suggest potential treatment options that might be a good fit for you. This consultation can help you gain clarity on your situation and decide if you’d like to move forward with therapy.

Therapy Options:

  • Eight-Session Counselling: Focused on helping you develop strategies to manage thoughts, emotions, and behaviour. This type of therapy is similar to 16-session therapy but with a slightly shorter timeframe. We’ll work collaboratively to understand your situation and build tools for you to overcome difficulties. This might include techniques like mindfulness, self-compassion affirmations, and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) skills. Regular weekly appointments are important for this approach to be effective.
  • 16-Session Psychotherapy: This short-term therapy is often very effective for treating depression and anxiety. It provides a safe and supportive space for you to work towards positive change. During the first four sessions, we’ll focus on building a deep understanding of your situation and the root causes of your struggles. This might involve exploring your personal history, relationships, and thought patterns. Once we have a clear picture, the remaining sessions will focus on shifting the patterns that are contributing to your depression or anxiety. Therapy is a journey, and there will be days you feel better and days you feel stuck. The sessions will provide a safe space for you to work through challenges and discover your authentic self. Again, consistent weekly appointments are crucial for optimal progress.
  • Long-Term Psychotherapy: This therapy allows you to explore your feelings and work towards psychological balance at your own pace. It can be open-ended or structured within a specific timeframe like 6 or 12 months. This deeper form of therapy can help you integrate your thoughts, emotions, and sense of self. You’ll have the space to process past experiences, understand your relationships, and develop a stronger, more integrated personality.

Important Considerations:

  • Booking regular weekly sessions is essential for successful therapy.
  • Cancellation Policy: Cancellations with less than 5 days’ notice may result in a fee and may not allow you to reschedule in your original time slot.

Ready to Get Started?

I encourage you to explore the options and see if therapy might be a good fit for you. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

How can I arrange a consultation and when do I need to pay for it?

Just email me at kasia@balance-psychotherapy.org, providing a very brief description of your concerns and letting me know the days and times that suit you the most. One-off consultation can help to clear your mind with a trained, neutral third person and can provide options that you can consider later.

Payment for consultations are taken via bank transfer before your consultation and it is usually within 24 hours of the time the consultation has been reserved. By paying up-front you are confirming that your intention of attending the consultation is serious. This arrangement has been put in place to protect the practice from those who arrange a consultation and do not come. When someone arranges a time slot, this slot cannot be offered to someone else.

These consultations cannot be rescheduled or cancelled, so be mindful when you are scheduling them as a refund will not be available.

‘I was originally wary of counselling, but I have to say, I had an overwhelmingly positive experience – I am now a firm advocate for it to all of my friends and family. I want to warmly say thank you for helping me. The impact your counselling sessions with me had has stayed with me and it looks like it will continue beyond. It has challenged me to grow out of my comfort zone and help me to make choices in life, both personal and career aspects.
